SHARES

Vegetable Shares

If you would like to get shares for our whole season, you must get both the Summer Share and the Fall Share. For 2012 we are not offering a full season share because of the way the signup software works.

All the vegetables and fruit you will receive are Certified Organic with a few exceptions. If we have an exception, we will let you know ahead that it is coming. For example, in 2011 we obtained strawberries from a local Amishman that were not certified, but were raised using organic management.

The Summer Vegetable Share is a part season share that begins the first week of May and ends the last week of August (September 1 for the Bryn Mawr pickup site). A total of 18 weeks. You can choose between weekly or biweekly delivery. Summer Vegetable Share members will enjoy lots of salad and crisp greens to start off in the spring, transitioning to ripe tomatoes and many other favorites throughout the summer.

The Fall Vegetable Share is a part season share that begins the first week of September and goes through the second full week of November. The final delivery will be the week ending Saturday, November 17. A total of 11 weeks. You can choose weekly or biweekly delivery. Since the Fall Season is an odd number of weeks, some biweekly members will receive 5 deliveries and some will receive 6, depending which week your shares are delivered.

Here in Pennsylvania during the Fall a surprising number of vegetables can still be harvested. Fall Vegetable Share members can expect some delicious meals including winter squash, sweet potatoes, and fresh broccoli and cauliflower. The last week will feature items suitable for your Thanksgiving meal.

While we do offer the biweekly delivery, Farmer Bud highly recommends getting the weekly delivery and finding someone who will "share the share" with you. Biweekly shares are subject to missing out on some of the crops due to the unpredictable nature of harvest schedules. We can only plan approximate harvest dates, but as we saw in 2011, the weather can change that by 2 weeks from the previous year!

Share sizes- We do not offer half shares. Instead we pack 1 size box and offer it to you weekly or biweekly. Share boxes will average at least 8 items over the course of the season, but will vary as the harvest dictates. A Weekly Share is expected to feed 2-4 people, depending on how often you cook and your household's appetite. Weekly Share members receive a box every week. Biweekly Share members receive a box every other week. Biweekly Share members may not receive the complete variety of vegetables due to the every other week schedule; we'll do our best.

Boxes - We pack your share in a re-usable waxed produce box for maximum freshness. Each week when you pick up your share, please return the box to the host site for reuse.

Summer Weekly Vegetable Share (18 boxes): $550.00

Summer Biweekly Vegetable Share (9 Boxes): $275.00

Fall Biweekly Vegetable Share (5 or 6 Boxes): $171.25 or $205.50

Egg Shares

Our eggs are from pastured chickens. Weekly Egg shares are 1 dozen eggs every week, Biweekly Egg shares are 1 dozen eggs every other week.

Yogurt Shares

The yogurt shares consist of one quart of plain full fat yogurt per week. The yogurt is made from certified organic milk from cows grazing on organic pastures.

Summer Weekly Yogurt share (18 quarts): $73.80

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. The original idea was that a group of people in a community would join with a local farmer to have their food grown on the farm. Everyone would put in some money at the beginning of the season to purchase seeds, fertilizer, etc. The farmer would take the responsibility to grow food for the community members who joined. Each week the farmer would bring in the harvest, perhaps with help from some of the community members and they would all divide up the produce.

The benefits to the farmer were that he did not need to borrow a huge sum of money to get his crops into the field, and the produce was already sold before he planted it. The benefits to the community members were fresh food straight from the farm where they could not only know how it was grown, but could actively participate in what and how it was grown.

At Wimer's Organics, the CSA is a little different. We still have a group of people that join with us to have their food grown at our farm. However, we also sell the extra produce at the Bryn Mawr Farmers Market, or to stores, co-ops and restaurants in southeastern Pennsylvania. Our CSA members get a portion of the harvest for the week, although they rarely participate in the harvest due to the distance they would need to travel. We deliver all of our shares to locations off the farm instead of having members come to the farm to pick up their share.

Here is a link to a short video made by one of our members in October 2011 explaining what CSA means to him. http://healthjawn.com/?p=145

I will be out of town on a day when I am supposed to pick up my share. How will that be handled?

There are a few things you can do:

Ask a friend or family member to pick up your share for you.

If you will be available the next day, ask your site host ahead of time if you can make arrangements to pick up your share the next day.

Login to your account on our store and put a "HOLD" on any deliveries you will miss from being out of town. Your account will be credited for missed deliveries.

Can I pick up my share outside of the designated hours?

No. At least, not on a regular basis, and only with permission from your site host. Each site has a late pick up policy in case you forget to come during the designated hours or for some reason you are running late. Many of the sites are at someone's home. In order to allow them to have a life outside of being a site host, and in order to insure that your food items are fresh, we have established hours for pick up. Please make every effort to pick up your food items during the designated time frame. Wimer's Organics standard policy is that if you do not pick up your food items during the designated time frame, you forfeit your share. Any late pick ups are solely due to the kindness and mercy of the site host.

Do you accept EBT cards for your CSA?

No we don't. We looked into accepting them, but were told we need to have a credit card machine to swipe the card and we would need to swipe it every week for the following week's share. Members would need to come to the farm for that to work, and we don' have a credit card machine anyway.

http://www.wimersorganics.com/content/9438

Policies

Refund and Returns Policy
